Log in Possibility?

I just wanted to know if this idea is possible, and if so can I get help with it?

I currently have an Admin link that opens up a log in page if cookie isn't detected and/or then passes to admin page for maintenance and stuff on my site.

What I want is when I click on the admin.php link and if it passes to log in, I want a screen to pop up (log in page) in a small screen outside of the original site, if username/password match, on submit close window and refresh the main page to admin.php?

I think this might be a good enough description if not, tell me.

So it is possible.... That is good to hear... I was thinking about different ways, but for some odd reason, I feel that I did know this at one time, but completly forgotten this concept.
