Seeking???

HI, I am getting this error in my script, and I have no idea what it means:

Warning: main(): stream does not support seeking in "location here" on line 10

I put in that location here thing, for security reasons... but anyhow, can anyone clarify what this means???

line 10 is the include...???

include is for including a PHP file with code in it. It looks like you're trying to do something else like output the file. for that you should do something like echo(file_get_contents("http://whatever/"));

hmmm, thats strange, because it worked on our old server, but then I transfered to a new one today, and it still works fine, I just get that error on the top of the page... i mean, it works and all, its just annoying, and the clients won't want to see that.

you can easily suppress an error by putting an @ symbol before the line.

From the PHP Manual:

Files for including are first looked in include_path relative to the current working directory and then in include_path relative to the directory of current script. E.g. if your include_path is ., current working directory is /www/, you included include/a.php and there is include "b.php" in that file, b.php is first looked in /www/ and then in /www/include/.

and later in the section:

If "URL fopen wrappers" are enabled in PHP (which they are in the default configuration), you can specify the file to be included using a URL (via HTTP or other supported wrapper - see Appendix J for a list of protocols) instead of a local pathname.

As such, the include construct works with paths, not URLs, unless allow_url_fopen has been set to a true value.

Another note though:

On Windows versions prior to PHP 4.3.0, the following functions do not support remote file accessing: include(), include_once(), require(), require_once() and the imagecreatefromXXX functions in the Reference XLI, Image Functions extension.

Which is why it is often useful to state the version of PHP and other programs/libraries involved when trying to fix problems that arise out of a server migration.

My hunch is that Zend Optimizer is installed on the server in question; I've heard of this sort of thing happening on such installations; Zend still don't seem to believe it's a real bug, though, and make out that it's a myth. It may be a version conflict between ZO and PHP, if the installed optimier was held over from an earlier version of PHP, but that's just a guess. The workaround is examancer's @ suggestion.
