php mysql International characters (ÅÄÖ)

Hi,

I have moved my web site from a redhat 9 to a Fedora Core 1,
after the move all the International characters in the mysql database stopt working...

It look likes this, (g岤en) or (v䬤igt)

Here is the working text (gården) or (väldigt).

Hi Mick

I put all non-Roman characters into the DB as HTML entities, e.g. Ä etc. For content supplied through a user form as opposed to content supplied directly by me, I include some searching and replacing for lists of common non-Roman characters.
