making dynamic info into a link

I have created a website for a client using DW & PHP and created an admin tool for her so that she can update listings of retail stores where her products will be shown. Some of those stores have websites as well and she would like to enter the websites on her page along with the listing. OK.

How can I make that dynamic information linkable - is that a word? i.e. Currently, she enters www.abc.com and it appears as text. I have looked under the attributes of the field and found nothing that I can tell would make that an active link. I have tried placing the <a href> tags in different places but I am just taking stabs in the dark at this point.

Any guidance would be much appreciated!

Let's say the variable for that field is $site. You could do something like

$link = '<a href="'.$site.'">'.$site.'</a>';

You could store $link into the database, or you could print $link (instead of $site) in the page where you want the link displayed.
