php editor for linux??

Hi there!

I used to use Editplus on windows...Now I have moved to linux and could not find an editor with the same features than editplus...

What I would like to have:

Highlight sintaxe
The TAB feature....(When u hit <enter> after a "{" it goes to the newline and put a TAB automatically, and when I close the } it "DISTAB")

Its not much....I´ve tried kate and bluefish...They are nice, but dont have the TAB feature (at least I couldnt find how to enable it)

Currently I have xfce4 running on my debian (sarge)...

Any tips on this??

VIM is the dogs bollox (that means good😉) and can do almost anything, so long as you set it up to. You can run commands from within vim (handly for quickly checking syntax/output of a file you're working on) you can assign commands to keys (I've got <F10> as a search and replace on all tabs with 4 spaces which is handy)
With regards to inserting a tab when you start a new line after a { and loosing a tab with } there probably is a setting (it's just a matter of hunting around and finding what it is) but even if there isn't (very very unlikely) you'd be able to achieve it by writing a function in your .vimrc and then attaching that to the enter key.

This could quickly turn into a flame war (especially the vi/emacs debates) but I like to use joe for console only stuff (and hte new release yesterday adds highliting, etc) or kwrite for a gui text editor.

Will test these "command editors"...I had in mind a GUI editor, since I am new to linux 🙂

Vim has a GUI too, though if you know how to do it the vi way... 😃

But, especially if you're using KDE, it would probably be easier to start off with kwrite, or perhaps kate, since the latter should have more features.

I still haven't got around to trying out kate, aparently you can have split screen within the kate window (like vis :split or :new) which has a command shell.
If you can play around with their sizes as easily as you can with vi that would be brilliant. A couple of coding panes, a MySQL one, a command line, and Lynx would do me 😃

You can use EditPlus on Linux with WINE.

Works 99%. Some buttons look out-of-place but all the functionality is there.

I'd recommend Kate under KDE and VIM on console though.
