getting 'date created' from a pdf

is there a function which will give me the date a pdf was created? The pdfs are already on the server

Take a look at the [man]filemtime/man function.

thanks, but this doesn't quite work, as I'm uploading all the files now and therefore they will all have been modified now even though some were written months ago.

pdfs have their creation date and modification date, so it must be possible to access?
