I'm a noob also, but I think this can be done. You'd just have to make the page reload...
I think he could make a button that says "back" on it, but it literally is not a back button, its merely a redirect.
You'd use $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER']; to detect where the user came from then redirect them to the previous page they went to. (from a browser history standpoint they are not going back, but it'll do the trick.)
Then just post the submitted data on the page they came from if the $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER']; came from your back buttton page.
