Hello all. I am obviously ignorant tonight, I cannot seem to figure this on out.

I have a script that is sort of a file manager for my friends that I give space to on my website. They have to log in with thier subdomain name which is the username they select when they sign-up.

Here is the problem. Lets say the users name is frank. If the user types in thier username as Frank and anything other than frank (all lowercare, case sensitive) then all hell breaks loose on my scripts.

I need a way to take what characters they enter and match then to the DB then change whateve they entered to what the DB says it is supposed to be.

Kinda like:

User enters Frank.
DB has frank
DB sees frank is only in one row.
Users variable changes to frank
Everything is fine.

         WHERE lower(name) = '".strtolower($name_from_form)."'";

you could use the php function strtolower() to adjust your data before checking against the database... or the MYSQL function LOWER() if your quality logic is in the database

other rdbms would have similar string manipulation functions... check your friendly manual

$username = $_POST['username'];
$username = strtolower($username);
$_SESSION['username'] = $username;
