Generating index numbers along with records fetched

Hello There,

I am totally and completely new to PHP. I am creating a website that will allow project tracking. But how will I display the serial numbers along with the bulk of records that are fetched ?

Say I fetch records 10-30. But when I fetch it, and display it in the html tables...how will i make sure it adds the serial number ?

What is the query/code that is required ? Please help me out with thiis.

Not sure what your problem is. It sounds like me you should perhaps start off with reading some general info on th euse of databases and dynamic page building?

Just giving you a piece of code is -impossible without more information
and/or -useless at thjis point.

In general, you can decide which part o fthe table to select: Specfiic colums, or the whole record. If you select the whole record, you can include your ID colum, which should hold your 'serial numbers'

But as I said.. Do some reading on the tutorials on PhP / MySQL website building.

uhm...since your iterating over the data...simply use the iterator+offset...

for ($i=0; $i<$rows; ++$i) {
echo $i+$offset . $bulk_data;
}

if this is what you mean...

Hello guys,

Thanks a lot for your processor time 🙂 <Chuckle>. I did manage to solve it...DId a bit of reading...as J suggested. Anyway..the problem lies in MYSQL..I had to add "autoincrement" to the primary key which worked out just fine for me. So mysql itself would generate the keys...I would simply fetch 'em and use 'em
