Hi all,

I need help with an error i am getting when i try to insert data into an access database using odbc:

INSERT INTO Orders (EmployeeNo, Breakfast, BreakExtra, BreakText, Lunch, LunExtra, LunText, EntryTime, SameBreak, SameLunch, Cost) VALUES ('112233','Garlic Potatoes',' ','','Garlic Potatoes',' ','','05-05-04','0','3','3.6')

Warning: odbc_exec(): SQL error: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Operation must use an updateable query., SQL state S1000 in SQLExecDirect in c:\inetpub\wwwroot\niall\finished.php on line 66
Error in query

I know it says that i have an error in my query but when i scrape the Insert off the screen and paste into a query in access it works and it works on my laptop also...I can't understand what is wrong with it...Can someone please help..

Having run away from MS databases 3 years ago and never returned I can't be sure of this, but to me the error "Operation must use an updateable query" doesn't sound like theres a problem with the sql query, more that something is stopping the query running on the database.

A quick bit of Googling found this: Error Description

The permissions that are set on the directory the database is in. IUSR privileges must be set to "read/write".

The permissions on the database itself does not have full read/write privileges in effect.

This error can also occur when the database is located outside of the inetpub/wwwroot directory. Though the information is still able to be viewed and searched, it cannot be updated unless it is in the wwwroot directory.

Obviously thats a bit ASP oriented, but the same factors apply.
