Doc Text Extraction

Hey All, I am looking for some good tutorials to extract text from document after upload such as word docs, excel docs, adobe pdf docs .etc...
Just havin a hard time finding information on it

Word and Excel files will be a total nightmare. Theres just no good documentation about them coz Microsoft keep the format a big secret.

PDF is easier to find out about. Theres a whole section of the PHP manual dedicated to the PDF functions: http://uk2.php.net/pdf

Note though, few hosting companies have the PDF functions compiled in in my experience.

Yea, but I have the benefit of it being my company's intranet site. Actually Doc and XML file extraction isn't a must, I can always upload->convert to pdf->extract text->input text into database

Hey, now I've got a new problem. Does anyone know of an app that can convert doc/xml files to pdf files upon upload?
