Updating records to MySQL

When updating records in a MySQL database, do I have to update the whole row...or can I only update the fields that I need to? The first four columns contain IDs and other information that I do not allow updating..but the rest of the columns I allow updating when user submit through the web. Is this possible? If its, will anyone show me how it's done?

You can update only the relevant fields.

Read up the mysql docs on UPDATE syntax for more information.
