ask for network password executing PHP

I recently rewrote lots of scripts in php application. But, when some of the users tried to login, they were prompted a window(just like apache authentication window) asking for network password. HTML pages are OK, but not PHP files.
Does anybody know what might be wrong? Thanks in advance.

Is it an apache auth window? You've given little detail.

Show us an example script and describe the network ...

It is not little detail, but I don't know which direction I should go for. I am thinking of more a setting or network problem, since the scripts worked before and there are only several users have this problem. So maybe this is related to client side. I newly added some javascripts, which physically are in a different server, using <scripts src="http://another_domain/somesscripts.js"> - is this causing problem?

Was there an upgrade done on the server? Sounds like it doesn't recognize the .php extension, and is sending it as a file rather than a web page...

... and the browser skips the download dialog ("do you want to save this file or run it from its current location") and goes directly to the "save" dialog ... and the users $HOMEdirs are all network shares?

Possible ... but as the OP should be able to see, it's quite a lot of conjecture, caused by lack of details.... :rolleyes:

That sounds reasonable, given that only "some users" are affected. But we're still taking shots in the dark.

Are the affected users programmers who use .php with some editor or IDE? So, the server's misconfigured, but saving the file locally isn't an issue, except for the guys who open .php with some IDE that sits on a pw-protected network share? (kinda like playing "charades" or "Taboo", isn't it? 😉 )
