complete newb building database, need help

hey people. i'm building a website, i've got most of the html done already - now all i have to do is learn php so i can make the websote dynamic.

i need to code the following:

*database

*searchfunction to search database and diplay results

*sorting searchresults (reloading page with results displayed in different prder

*template code, code that collects snippets of html code and puts it together on a webpage. like, one snippet of code for navigation, one for copyright notice etc etc

*Content Management System, 100% webbrowser based

can someone please point me in the right direction or help me out?

and please keep in mind that i am an UTTER and COMPLETE newb. i know NOTHING at all about php, so plase don't just say "use the dynamic string query" or something like that. i need to hear it in plain ol' english. 😉

i've been looking around but had trouble understanding the tips. i'm a master at html so i'm not unfamiliar with computers and coding. it's just that my skills stop at html.

Ok firstly id suggest reading some basic tutorials from http://spoono.com/php if you do the vast majority you should have enough skills to do your task. However id use something like Smarty or read up on how to create your own Template System.

btw, i'm on mac OSX 10.2, don't know if it matters...
