Long line of text

I am currently writing a website for an assignment in PHP. The site is on music bands. On the bands i wish to store details about the band name, members etc....

I have an about section which normally is quite long full of text. When i add the description to the database is there anyway i can automatically have my script input a <p> tag where ever there is a gap as at the moment it is just returning a long line of text.

Any help will be much appreciated if any of that above makes sense.

i prefere nl2br()

nl2br only converts newlines to break tags. It doesn't forcefully break the string. So if you have a 3000 charachter string with no newlines, nl2br would be useless.
