Bad domain pointed at my IP

We recently co-located a server, and upon setting up Apache, I see a lot of requests coming in that shouldn't be coming in. Looking deeper, I see they are coming from a warez site, hotlinking to a domain that seems to be registered to one of my new found IP addresses. This is no good....
Who should I contact in this situation? The registar? The data center? While they can't actually get what they want from my server, my error_log is getting big really fast from all of these invalid requests coming in...

I recommend hiring an attorney and suing them a billion bucks for each hit. It could be your lucky day!

I guess your first point of call is the registrar of whatever the domain is. Other than that, do you have any control of the firewall that comes in? You could try blocking whatever the header is.

Or you could just create a virtual host on apache with that domain name and just have their traffic pointing to your company website. Think of all the extra traffic you'll get 😃

Or, start charging one of your clients on a per-hit basis and point the virtual host at their website 😃

Or you could just set up a couple pages on the requested URLs that just have a huge amount of pay-per-click banner ads and make a little cash off it. 😃

Thats a very good point. I bet the majority of the people who are visiting are male and between the ages of 11 and 15, so just put a load of p0rn banners up.

Hmm, certainly a bunch of good ideas here.

Maybe use something like mod_local (is that right?) to send them all to the same page, and put a copy of Bagle.Z or somesuch there...

Then there's a redirect option. www.fbi.gov, maybe? Hmm, get 'em in bigger trouble; redirect to [url]telnet://somereallysecuremachine.mil[/url] or somesuch...

Really, I have no good ideas... I have often thought of writing a lil' PHP script to clean up Apache logfiles, though :rolleyes:

I use logrotate for log managment.

What sort of warez? Pirate software? Bounce them to the manufacturers and see what happens if and when they check their error logs....
