I completely agree with you on both counts. When I said "table-less" I really only meant tables for layout - tabular data is an exception. Additionally, there are times when tables make like much easier even when using the new standards.
I too am quite worried about the future of website design/building as these divs do make things much more difficult. Also, M$ is about to bring the browser to the OS and we can only imagine what kind of hell this is going to bring about.
My guess is that what works today, including tables layout, will work in 5 years from now and if it doesn't I'll be just as irritated as everybody else about it.
Now, is PHP5 going to force me to relearn all the stuff I know so far? This OO stuff? - am I about to be phased out from doing things too? I wouldn't claim to be great at working with PHP but I can build a damn good CMS or customized tracking system for document management on they fly - or am I on the verge of becoming a legacy?
