Checking dates

Hello,

This is probably an easy one but to much work had given me brain damage 🙂

Ok, i got several dates like this (Y-m-d):

2004-05-04
2003-11-15
2004-04-23
2004-05-07

I need to check the dates and see which date is the cloasest to todays date and then line them up in order like this:

(today its 2004-05-11)

2004-05-07 (this date is cloasest to today)
2004-05-04 (next cloasest)
2004-04-23 (third cloasest)
2003-11-15 (forth cloasest)

and so on.

hm, looks like MySQL-dates
if so, simply add an 'ORDER BY datecol DESC' to the end of your query...

if not,
is it an array of dates?

Hi,

I suppose if it is not a result of a mysql query (As mentioned above) you could convert them into unix timestamps [man]mktime[/man], and substract the current unix timestamp off it. Then sort by this.

Yes its a mysql. I forgot the ORDER BY command, lol.
What does DESC' do?

DESC orders the output in an descending way not like the default asc -> ascending...

assumed the column holding the dates is named
'mydatecol' a simple query could look like this:

SELECT mydatecol FROM mytable ORDER BY mydatecol DESC;
