[Resolved] selecting from table (for begginers, of course)

hello!
i have a table that looks like this:

month    |  day      |  hour   |  text
_______________________________________________

january  |  monday   |  20:00  |  some text....
january  |  tuesday  |  22:00  |  some text....
january  |  thursday |  21:00  |  some text....
january  |  sunday   |  19:00  |  some text....
february |  monday   |  21:00  |  some text....
february |  sunday   |  19:00  |  some text....
etc.

i want to select stuff from table so the output looks like this:

JANUARY:

monday @ 20:00h
some text...

tuesday @ 22:00h
some text...

thursday @ 21:00h
some text...

sunday @ 19:00h
some text...

FEBRUARY:

monday @ 20:00h
some text...

tuesday @ 22:00h
some text...

etc.

of course, everything has to be dynamic, so there shouldnt be
echo "<b>JANUARY:</b>";
and similar stuff on the page...

...so how should query look like? (i need only query, i know how to display results...)

Hmm, "select * from tablename" should do it ... 😉

well, yes...
i need to select all records from table that have same 'month' value and display them in a html table and than i need to repeat that for all the months...
i cant do query like this
select * from table where month like 'january'
because that complicates some other things but that is not the issue... so, i need to select somehow all records that have same value in one column and than repeat that as long as there are records in a table....
i hope i was clearer than last time? 🙁

Anyway:

First: Have you considerede using a timestamp field, instead of crteating your own timestamps?

Anyway, think along these lines:

$query="Select * from TABLE order by month, day, hour";

$result = mysql_query($query);

$ThisMonth = "";
while($row=mysql_fetch_array($result))
 {
  if($ThisMonth != $row[month])
   {
   $ThisMonth = $row[month];
   echo "<b>".$ThisMonth.":</b><br>"
   }
   echo $row[day]."<br>";
 }

Also if you do decide to use a DATETIME field to store the timestamp (which I recommend), you can do a query like this to select records where the month is say january:

SELECT field FROM table WHERE MONTH(datetime_field) = '01'
