Progress Bar

I am trying to have a progress bar load while I am accessing a mysql table. It is a webmail solution that when I am checking the mail can take some time to load based off of the amount of messages in the database. The page is in a frame, but I cant get any type of progress bar working at all. I need to be able to have the progress bar be more intuitive than a simple timer. I have googled for things like this it just seems like there is nothing out there. Has anyone done anything along these lines?

You could use javascript to place a dot every few seconds, then use flush() afterwards...

use layers <div> to find more about layers open an editor like dreamwaver of frompage, and write the code of the website (the design) and in the end add the layer and make its position absolute and specify it by pixels then , don't close the layer , just use echo , and flush , echo and flush , and finally after the processing ends close the layer and the html.
I'm not sure If if missed something but it should work.
