Im in Guildford, Surrey... I am actually in Louisiana USA for two months right now, then Im back in guildford a week and then my gf and I are moving to Portsmouth for a year whilst she does a placement for IBM.
Well first you will probably want some reliable webspace. I rent a dual xeon server from servermatrix.com.
Finding work is hard. very hard. Mostly I ask local businesses if I can design a page for them.. just walk in the door dressed nicely with a portfolio under your arm and a decent speech thought out about 1/5 attempts gets me a job.
Other than that when I am strapped for cash I use www.rentacoder.com and sell my services there. Problem with that site is that they take about 10% comission, and then there are alot of programmers on the site willing to do the job so you have to work for less money than you would get flipping burgers at burger king.
When things get really bad I can always jump behind the bar at the local and get 40 pounds for a nights work.
I hear dustmen in our area get between 45 - 52 grand a year (80,000$) which is more than I earn right now... tempting huh?
