Add 14 days to date() function.

What's up? Is there an easy way of doing this? All I want is to populate the date with the date() function and then have the system add 14, 7, or user defined days to it. That way it can have an ending date. Can MySQL do that itself? I think it can but I would rather have it done in PHP. If anyone can help me out that would be great! Thanks always!
