call php in html

How do I re-write a code for a link that plays a music file such as this one:

<a href="http://www.aconeinc.com/sounds/hollademo.m3u">Hi-fi</a> </strong></font></div></td>

so that it both plays the file and also calls a php script to action. The php script I made is called counter.php. I want the link to call this php script as well as play the music file. Preferably, please write out the new code referencing the one above so I don't miss anything. Thanks

make the PHP file ONLY update the counter in the DB, then use HEADER to bounce it to the file that it needs to play

OK, but how do I do that? I'm not very familiar with using headers. Could you kindly elaborate by steps what exactly to do . Thank you

Could have a small error or two, but that is the general idea.

didnt work for me. The counter.php is in my root folder not the /sounds folder but even when I put it in the /sounds folder, I got all kinds of errors. Isnt there a simple way to write a code that calls an already made code(dont need a new one), as well as play a sound file? Thanks
