problem with creating folders

Hi,
I have a script that let's people create folders in which they can store pictures and a few other bits and pieces.

The trouble is, when I go onto any FTP software and attempt to modify the folders (that have been created by the script), it does not let me do anything!

By that, I mean, I can't rename files that are in the folder... I can't delete files that are in the folder... indeed, I can't really do anything without it saying "Permission Denied".

I've been on the phone to my hosts and they assure me that this problem has nothing to do with ChMod. They say it's a problem with my script because "the script is writing files that nobody owns".

Can anyone please explain the meaning of all of this and also point me in the right direction towards finding a cure?

Your hosting company is correct. When you create a folder throught a script, your account is not creating the folder, but the process - the web server and PHP are creating the folder. To change or delete the folder, the process - the owner, must make the change. Create a script to delete or modify and it will work.
