Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mail()

Hi all,

I see this post everywhere but some people get the error and other not! I personnal have installed linux on many boxes and have never see it until now!

Does any one know what causes this and/or more importantly how to solve this problem?

I have checked all log files that I can find and I'm still none the wiser.

Spec:
Suse Pro 9.1
Kern: 2.6.4-54.5-smp
PHP: 4.3.4

I set my php.ini file sendmail_path option to every location of a mail programme I can think of.

I checked the phpinfo output on some other sites with mine and I noticed that they have an entry in the standard section called "Path to sendmail" and I dont.

I installed everything using yast2, so I'm not even 100% sure how to recompile the php like some post suggest

I would appreciate any help on this.

Make sure you have sendmail setup and running. If so, make sure the user that compiled php has access to the sendmail binary. If sendmail is in your path, you can comment out the sendmail_path directive altogether, because php will just pick it up from the path.

Removed the send_mail settings in the php.ini and now the phpinfo output displays the path and from as "no value", but still not sign on the 3rd option in the standard section.

If I check my path for the root user (which yast2 configured php in) I get the following ouput:

/sbin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/sbin:/root/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/bin:/usr/games:/opt/gnome/bin:/opt/kde3/bin:/usr/lib/java/jre/bin

and then to check if my sendmail is in the path I get this:

# which sendmail
/usr/sbin/sendmail

I'm not really a sendmail wizard, so any is there a command where I can test sending an email etc...?? I'm able to use the mail command, but I'm not sure if they are linked.

Hi,

I have just tested my sendmail and it appears to work e.g. I received the test email.

Command:

sendmail email_address <<END

this is some text
END

This is of course outside of the PHP environment.

So all I can think is that PHP could not find or link to the sendmail programme when it was installed or compiled.

As I used yast2 to install/compile PHP, does any one happen to know how to recompile it etc...

I'm remote at the moment, but if nothing else works I will see if uninstalling it and then reinstalling on Monday morning works. This from the comfort of the freezing cold server room with the cd in hand 🙂

Note to self: Mount the disks on the network!

I really need this working as all of my sites are not emailing at all.

The problem is now fixed. Suse has an update/pach on their web site, which solves the problem that I was having.
