lining up text for email

I have a script that sends an email to a customer who has just purchased a product. I'm having trouble lining up the text.

The email lists details on each product ordered:

Product, Name, BWD#, QTY, Unit Price, Discount, Ext
ASSM, 4V 2.5AH, 040-0075, 1, 20.50, 0, 20.50
DIEBOLD, 6V 4.5AH, 050-4574, 1, 40.32, 0, 40.32

I need to be able to line up information for each row in colums using tabs or something similar.

Is HTML E-Mail out of the question for this ?

Admittedly, having the multipart in there so you can send both HTMl and plain text would be an advantage...

Would \t be a tab for the plain text ? can't remember fully....

Thanks for the reply. HTML would be the easiest, but I need it to be text only.

Still having problems lining up the text. On the emails, it's coming in like this:

QTY BWD# PRODUCT NAME UNIT PRICE DISCOUNT EXTENDED

1 060-3171 06001 UB 14.00 14.00
1 APC-005 BACK UPS 1200 62.00 62.00
1 012-3110 NiMH AA 1200mAh Flat 1.50 1.50

Try using \t for tabs as The Chancer suggested. That is plain text and would probably solve it.
