Line breaks

I'm trying to make a news system 🙂 my first one, though i follow tutorials every where... now the problem if i have a long text i would like it to auto add line breaks, other wise i have to put them in by my self constantly.

Question, how?

help me please, i don't want to type the rest of my news systems lfe <br /> :S

Ok found out about the nl2br ()
but i can't get it to work,

			<i>Posted by $author on $date</i></p>
			<p><i>$titling</i><br />
			<a href=\"javascript:change('$id', 'show');\" class=\"news\"><span class=\"note\">Show Full</span></a></p>
			<p id=\"$id\" class=\"hide\">$news<br /><br />
			<a href=\"javascript:change('$id', 'hide');\" class=\"news\"><span class=\"note\">&not; Hide news</span></a></p>
			";
}

thats the display code i use... need some help on inputting that nl2br somewhere :S

I'm assuming it's just $news which needs newlines converted to characters.
