[Resolved] mod rewrite, again? 404 errors cant find help

hi,

i know i'll probably get some stick from the admins or from people who post alot round these parts but i have a problem reguarding the mod rewrite tool which i cant find any help to

i'm using php5 with apache2 on windows xp pro

and i'm just trying to get my rewrite tools working before i do anything spectacular with them

here is my htaccess file

ErrorDocument 404 /404.shtml

RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^users/(.*)$ users.php?user=$1

i think the problem has something to do with either apache or the reading of the htaccess files because the error page 404.shtml doesnt show either, only the default 404 page is displayed

can anyone please help me

i've fixed this problem, so i thought i'd say how i fixed it incase someone else gets this problem

in httpd.conf change

AllowOverride None

to

AllowOverride All
