GD gif write & FTP?

Hi All,

OK, I have a need to convert uploaded JPGs to GIF on server 1.

I am stuck with GD 2x so no GIF write support and ImageMagik is not installed on hosted server 1. I have asked the host to install IM on server 1 but no response yet.

I do have Image Magik installed on hosted server 2 - a seperate instance.

I am contemplating server 1 accepting the JPEGs, ftp them over to server 2, convert to GIF and then ftp them back.

This all seems a little cloogy to me - any advice?
Is there a better way to convert JPG to GIF on server 1?
Is there a more elegant way of moving the files from server 1 to server 2 that is quick and more reliable?

Any reason why they have to be gif files? What about png?

Hi Onion2k,

Yeah, this is a specific application for mobile devices and the requirements for one device in particular is GIF format. But you never know, it may support PNG but I would not know at this point. I assume you are suggesting convert from JPEG to PNG on server 1 if the device supports PNG?

What about wireless bitmap (wbmp)?? It would seem a more fitting format for a mobile device. That'd be the possibility I'd explore.
