unix platform as web server

I have transferred from windows to linux (sun cobalt), now I am going to transfer to unix platform.

Could anyone here give me ANY INFORMATION, ADVICE about the using UNIX platform as web server?

Such as online resources, books, and your experience, anything to get me start and to let me not make the same mistakes you made (🙂), anything.

i need to make myself more clear. i want to know the general knowledge about using unix platform as web service platform.

apache only covers the web server part.

there are ftp server, telnet server (or ssh), mail server, security and server user management etc. and other operations such as package install etc.

As well as Unix Server management through the Unix command line.

While I was on the linux (Sun Cobalt), it offeres a simple Web Access User Interface to do some of the server management works, but for a pure Unix Box I am going to use, I think everything is from command line.

Saying "Unix server" leaves too many doors open to really get a feel for what you're going to do. Unix; HPUX? AIX? IRIX? OSF/1? BSD? Solaris? OSX? Linux? Dare I say......SCO Unix?

Each has it's own flavor, and it's own way of doing some things.

We all know that the only real version of UNIX is the SCO one... cos they 0wn it and everything :p

oh, minor point: Lordshryku, can you enable anonymous comments on your blog. I don't really wanna start up a blogger account...

and is it possible to syndicate (uses atom doesnt it) cos then i can use rssreader and dont have to go to you site every time i wanna check to see if you've posted.

LOL! I just started blogging Monday. Have yet to learn the intricacies of it, but already half tempted to just build my own.

Comments are now for everyone. The syndication I'll have to look at tonight. 🙂
