Need to display a "please wait while..." during script execution

Hello -

This site (phpbuilder.com) has an excellent example of something I need to do. When you perform a search, you are presented with a "Please wait while..." screen, and then automatically taken to the search results when it is complete.

I need to do the exact same thing for a project where very large files (20MB and up) are being zipped into a single archive for download. I need to present a "please wait while..." during the zipping process, and then take the viewer automatically to a page where they can download the archive.

I've looked around for indications on how to accomplish this, but have not found anything terribly useful yet.

Can anyone help me with this?

Same here, I too need it. You will need a progress bar too as the process could be a long one with 20MB files

Look into Output Control.

You could output a 'please wait' image, run a for loop to see if the archived file exists then once it does, direct to the download page.

Righto, perhaps output buffering would help.

You can also google for "PHP Progress Bar"; The thing is, it can't be fully implemented in PHP, but IIRC there's a well known one that uses PHP and PERL to do the trick for uploads. Dunno if it'd be able to help here or not...

I forgot to mention, in re: the O.P., and most of you probably already realize, that what's going on here with the "search redirect" is not actually a progress bar, but just a moving picture to help the surfer pass the time 😉

And also, when you looked at what this site was doing, you'd've seen that it's sending a "please wait" page and then using a META tag to go on to the real page. Possibly with stuff in the querystring.
