MySQL database on my machine?

I am running Windows XP Professional. I have a gig of RAM, so that is not an issue. I would like to set up a MySQL database on my machine. I have been to mysql.com and downloaded the version they recommend (4.0.xx, which is the current production--i.e., stable--release). I installed this release, and it is "running" on my machine.

What I can't figure out is where to go to enter my SQL statements to create and populate the database. The MySQLAdmin has several tabs, but none of them has an SQL window.

Does anyone know how I can get started here?

you can use the commad prompt:
start-all programs-accessories

or use an interface like phpmyadmin

Is there a version of PHPMyAdmin that runs on Windows XP? Where can I find a download?

after following the .zip link in the quick downloads box

these are just php files
there is no real installer, if that's what you're looking for
all you have to do is move the files to a webserver directory and edit one file

read the files in that .zip file

I suppose you have Apache or IIS installed, as well as PHP...
