I dont want to target an HTML code, but the PHP response...

Let me try to explain better: when you call a PHP script, it process a lot of things and returns an HTML code to your browser, right? Well, if you have two or more frames, the HTML code generated by the PHP script will return to the SAME frame from where the PHP script was called. But suppose that I have the PHP script call in a frame, but want the HTML code response in OTHER frame???

I was talking about to target not a regular HTML file, but the HTML code generated by a response from the execution of a PHP script.

I didnt think that it should so hard to get, once it's why we use a server-side script language (like PHP, ASP, Perl, etc)... but it dont matter, I think that you both didnt understand my needings because it was my fault to not get to explain it the right way (in fact, I think that you dont understood, still !!!!)

Even this way, you both were very nice to try to help me.

Well, whatever, never mind... forget it, folks, after all, I already got how to make it.

And the point we're making is that it doesn't matter: the browser doesn't care if the HTML came from an HTML file or if it was generated by a PHP script or whatever. All it knows is that there's this big wodge of HTML it got sent by the server and now it's supposed to display the stuff.

Maybe we don't understand: what's so special about this request for HTML data that it can't be treated like any other request for HTML data?

The point is: I have the PHP script being called from a link in a frame but I want that the returning HTML shall be showed in ANOTHER frame. Geez, is this so hard to understand , anyway????

But, well, even you think that's no make sense, as I said before, I already solved that, then THERE IS a way to do that. Following this point, if there is a way to do that, then it MAKE SENSE!

its not possible to do what you want. when php processes the code, all it does is send the output to whatever called it, in this case its the persons browser from your frame. php doesn't even know its in a frame, and it doesnt even care if its in a browser.
think of it like this, you have an html file in a frame and you want the html to be output in a different frame.
not possible.

The only "trick" you need to have done was to put a "target=otherframe" on the link in the first frame. If that's what you did, that's basic HTML. If you used some sort of Javascript code to accomplish this, then you made it MUCH more complicated than it needs to be.

However, it does not invalidate what people have been trying to tell you. There is nothing you can do in PHP to force a page to open in a different frame.

Let's say you have two mailboxes at your house -- one for large packages, and one for envelopes. A friend sends you a letter. He has no way of specifying which mailbox the postman should put the letter in. It's up to the postman to decide, and he'll put it in the mailbox that makes sense to him.

In the same way, PHP (which is on the server) not only has no idea what frame to send the HTML to, it doesn't even know there ARE frames. It doesn't know if you're using IE or Mozilla, or a WAP phone. All it knows is to convert its commands into HTML and send it to the requesting address. That's it.

You say it's calling a PHP script from a link in the frame, and you want the results to output to another frame. You do that like this:

<a href="www.myserver.com/mydir/mycoolpage.php" target="main">Open my Cool Page in the other frame</a>

Whatever you did to make it work (please share your solution with us, so that others reading this thread will benefit from it), the easiest way to do what you need to do is use the TARGET keyword.
