feeding MySql

humm.. i really hope there is a quick fix for what i want to do.

I have installed a php newsletter script on my website, and want to trasfer my existing members list to the new script.

I have all my email addesses in a text document, and i can't see myself imputing 3000 email addresses one at a time into the MySql table "members"

is there a way to send all these addreses via an sql statment?

it need to be a new entry for each address, hence 3000 entries (or records, i don't know the proper word)

you could write a simple script to go thru all the addresses and add them in one at a time.

What format are the emails in the text document

are they spaced by , or new line or what?

you can use Expolde PHP funcation to help you brake up a txt files use can also open, read, write to text files with PHP.

you should have no problem getting the emails from text field to sql db field.

i have got them all in a text file, one email address per line, no coma or anything.

just a list of meail addresses.

so, what would be the next step to input them into my table automatically?

Note: you will need to edit the query inside mysql_query() in order to match the layout of your new database table. but that script would add each address in the file into the db.

so if my table structure is:

INSERT INTO newsletter_subscriber VALUES (", 'vinny', 'test, '', '', 'vinny@test.com', 'HTML', 'Active');

then I could set a default for all other values but what do i need to replace vinny@test.com with?

is it $addresses?

and it would insert each address one at a time?

replce the email address with $one.

it will put them in one at a time.

I'm sorry,

I can't get this to work properly:

foreach($addresses as $one) {
mysql_query("INSERT INTO newsletter_subscriber VALUES ('', 'vinny', 'test, '', '', '$one', 'HTML', 'Active')");
}

I either get a: Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach()

or (as i suspected there might be something not quite right with brackets another warning parse error.

can you see in these two lines what could be wrong?

Maybe you already thought of this, but the MySQL LOAD DATA syntax should work for your text file. Check it out at
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/LOAD_DATA.html

i see the problem. i spelled addresses wrong at the beginning.
i put
$addreses = file($EMAIL_FILE);
you can change it to
$addresses = file($EMAIL_FILE);
that would get rid of the foreach error.
