Web Based chat ( need help)

Hi every one

I'm making web based chat using php. The problem I'm facing is that if I use sessions to pass the username it destroys after some time because of page refreshing I guess. if I use cookie it makes the system too slow.

Please guide me what should I do and also please tell me how to avoid flickering. I used java script for page refreshing.

it flickers when the page refreshes you really can't avoid it just slow the refresh so it's not annoyingly fast.

There is a way to avoid flickering but for that I got to use java applet or jsp.

Hi every body can any one guide me how can I create different chatrooms. I know how to make a single web based chat. what I actually want is that as soon as user enters chat it creates a seperate chatroom on admin panel so that there will be just one chat room for each user who can chat with admin for customer support.

ysherazi: How did you go about building your chat system? An online tutorial or book? That's what I'm looking for right now. Good instruction on a simple single room chat system.
