preview prob in DW

I have just bought and installed Dreamweaver MX 2004. It seemed to be really cool with the syntax checking and whatnot, but when I try to connect to my ftp server, i connect by using ftp.domain.com, this takes me to the main folder, but I have to click on this folder that is my domain name to actually access my files, so basically, the ftp server on their end does not take me directly into my folder, but I have to click on it. As you can see, this is a huge problem because on the preview fucntion in dreamweaver, it goes to www.domain.com/domain/whateverfile.php
It is adding that domain folder because I had to go into that folder. Is this something fixable on my end or...?

Not sure if you have solved your problem, but i think i know what your problem is.

you have to go to the Advance tab in Site Definition area of the domain. There you should see a field named "Host directory" that is where you put the path to where the files end up on your website.

for example.
my host directory is: /var/www/html/
which leads to www.domain.com

now, if i changed my directory to: /var/www/html/help/
then that would lead to www.domain.com/help

the ftp function in dw mx sucks anyway, id recommend using an external thing... which doesnt disconnect all the time, does not screw up filenames as it sees fit and all....

What ARE you talking about? I use DWMX2k4 all the time, both at work and home and I've never had any problems at all. I think it's come a hell of a long way since DWMX, which was sluggish and, admittedly, had really bad ftp (which seemed to make it crash if no connection could be made)

I havent used it at as much as I use to .... but I still love the program and the ftp has sure come a long way!!!!
