Have any of you experienced these? You go to a site like, say, ESPN, to read some articles (not necessarily that site, of course). As you're looking through the page, an ad suddenly pops up over the page... "huh? where'd that come from?" There's a close link on it, so you click it. Then, you move your mouse down to the article you were just reading (and so rudely interrupted from), and as your mouse floats over a small banner ad, that blasted ad pops up again!!!!!
I don't know about you, but I find these VERY annoying -- even more than popup/popunders. At least if those pop up, you close them and they are gone for good (unless you refresh the page -- don't get me started down THAT road).
Advertising in general has gotten WAY out of hand. You can't watch a damned movie nowadays without having some Pepsi logo jump out at you, taking you away from the plot of the movie for just a moment. Times like that give me the urge to buy a Cokeยฎ. (Shrek's little Starbucks and Big Boy "nods" sure made me laugh, though ๐)
Do you watch NASCAR? Um... neither do I, but have you seen the in-car cameras? There are stickers all OVER the place. Ballparks are being renamed for millions of dollars (funny story... my girlfriend thought our baseball stadium here in Cincinnati, the Great American Ballpark, was named out of patriotism. Nope. It's named for Great American Insurance company).
So, who's to blame for all of this? WE ARE. Advertisers use methods that work to make them money, so SOMEONE is clicking on these ads. Someone is getting up in the middle of the movie to go buy a Pepsi. Shame on you! Stop clicking! Stop giving in to these brute force tactics!!!
<deep breath>
Ok, I'm done with my rant. No, I'm not feeling better, I just have to go now. I'm meeting with my lawyer to go over my paperwork. I'm changing my name to Coca Cola Glass. I'm not proud, but I'm getting a LOT of money for it.
Ciao! And remember, it's the Real Thingยฎ!
