[Resolved] Get highest value from a table

I'm creating an auction site, and working on the bidding part.
I have this table with some dummy data.

bid	uid	aid	timestamp	amount
1	1	2131	jadajada	200
2	3	2131	jadajada	250
3	5	2131	jadajada	300
4	4	2256	jadajada	250
5	6	2256	jadajada	300
6	8	2689	jadajada	40
7	4	2689	jadajada	50

bid: biddersID
uid: User ID
aid: Auction ID

How can i easiest get the highest amount from the aid: 2256?

SELECT amount FROM tablename WHERE aid='2256' ORDER BY amount LIMIT 1

Should be a better way to do this with MAX(), but I'm not sure of the syntax.
