access a file with php

I have been cracking my head against the wall figuring this out. And I have searched everywhere on the web for my answer but failed. anyway here is my problem:

I have a text file on a sub directory and I have made file accessible by only the owner. The thing I can't figure out is what to put as the code to grant my PHP script the authority to open and write to that file. I'm come across a lot of info about changing ownership but I don't want to changewho can open it. How do I tell the server "I am the owner so let me open this file."

Any help would be great. or if you know of a place with a turtorial...

Assuming this is an Apache module build, you would have to run Apache as the user who has the permission on the file. There's a directive inside httpd.conf to say who the service should run as.

I think it's running Apache. I know it's running Unix plateform. not sure what to configure. I've found the phpd.conf but what do i do with it. not sure how this can help me make my php file open read and write a file that i've set to owner permission.

Find this in httpd.conf. Change it to whatever user you need to run it as.

realized that wasn't what I found. I found the httpd folder and inside that was conf and confd folder
