How many people would you say are regulars here? 100? 150 perhaps? PHPBuilder has 55,000 members. Many of them are PHP newbies, and many of them do use IIS instead of Apache.
There are probably many more thousands that come here every month, many of whom arrive because they are just learning about PHP. That's why I came here originally.
This is a PHP site, and while many of use support Linux, many use MS products as well. Therefore, there really isn't a problem with MS ads here. If you don't like them, don't click. But don't think for a second that NOBODY is clicking them. I guarantee they are.
The article was specifically about Linux Today, and I can see his side of the argument. It's not so much a question of whether people will click the ad, the question is, why would a Linux site advertise MS? The answer is -- capitalism. It's what makes America what it is today.
My guess is that Jupitermedia's contracts with advertisers doesn't really specify which of their sites the ads will be on. If someone sell widgets, and their ads get displayed on all of JM's sites, is it fair that another company is restricted on the sites it can advertise on?
The fact is, if an ad is compelling to me, I'll click it. If it's not, I won't. I seriously doubt a Microsoft ad on Linux Today's site is going to bring about the downfall of Linux.
