Problem with exec()

I'm using ImageMagic under UNIX via the exec() function. I'm using it to
ascertain the dimension of JPEGs. The code which is causing problems is
below, I've used debugging code to try and work out what is going on with
the results as shown in a browser. I've then taken what appears to be sent
to the exec() function and copied it straight into a termal on the same
machine. When running in PHP the $exec_output array seems to be empty but on
the terminal I'm getting output. Can anyone suggest why this might be so?

Try using shell_exec and echo out the data directly.

echo(shell_exec($identify_cmd));

If this doesn't work you could try redirecting stdout and stderr to a file and see if that catches any messages. I believe that some of the execution functions do not return stderr (helpfull :rolleyes: ). To redirect all output to a file called data_out through the shell add > data_out 2>&1 to the end of the shell command like so

 $identify_cmd = "/home/<username>/ImageMagick/bin/identify -format
\"%w:%h\" \"JPEG:$input_path\"[0] > data_out 2>&1"; 

If you want the stdout and stderr to go into different files do it like this

 $identify_cmd = "/home/<username>/ImageMagick/bin/identify -format
\"%w:%h\" \"JPEG:$input_path\"[0] > stdout 2>stderr";
