Creating window without minimize, maximise and close button

Hello Everyone,

Can you help me with the following problem. I like to make a floating navigation window on my XHTML website.

So I like to create a tall window with the title "Navigation" in the title bar. When the user drags this navigation window by its title bar it has to move to the new location on screen.

So my intention is to create a window with only the title "Navigation" AND without those 3 buttons mentioned above.

Can you explain to me how I can create such a window in PHP? I am completely new to PHP. I bought a lot of books, however I cannot find the answer I am looking for.

to do things to the browser like that, javascript is what to use, not php. but unfortunately with the window.open method, you can get rid of just about everything except the titlebar, which contains the close, min, and max buttons.

you can play around with some code at http://www.w3schools.com/js/tryit.asp?filename=tryjs_openallwindow
and see if you can get a window how you want it.

You can look at the Window effects at Dynamic Drive, and you may find something you like.

You can also check out WinLike (This one only works on IE5.5+ I believe.)

You kindof have to create a modal type pseudo-window to do what you want. Either way, it's javascript that you would need to use to do it.

Thank you very much for your advice, it is very usefull. I also tried like you explained a JavaScript code which uses the "window.open" method and indeed you are correct you can get rid of everything except those 3 buttons in the title bar.

I will also investigate the first suggestion within a few days to see if I can accomplish a movable window without those 3 buttons. I saw a website which uses this kind of navigation window but they used HTML and a kind of layer to create this window. Regretfully I received an email which contained an attachement which was a deliberatelly virus file (extension .txt.bat) so I cannot give the URL here.

However I will share my experiences with you and other people here on the forum. Despite the fact I am a PHP - JavaScript beginner, I have the motivation to create that navigation window. And luckily you put me a good way in the correct direction.

I appreciate your efforts and time spend on my problem very much. Therefore I thank you very much.

The link I posted to Dynamic Drive has exactly what you are looking for using DHTML/Javascript. They have good examples, and code to explain how to implement things as well.
