Include MSWORD/MSEXCEL

I have MSWORD and EXCEL files. I want to include them/embed them in a php page. Im just looking to include the content of the file which is on the local system. After searching google for hours I can't figure out how to do this. Appreciate your help.

Also, can someone point me to a good resource to learn about reading XML in PHP, perhaps using DOM?

i was looking more along the lines of "msword php", "embed msword in php" etc.

A broswer plugin isn't really what I was looking for, more along the lines of a php command to include an msword file in a php page, like JSPs do it.

if you do just want to include it,
try include("wordfile.doc"); or include("spreadsheet.xls");

Hi drew,

using include gives out bogus characters associated with the .doc file. Also all formatting is lost. Any suggestions on how to preserve the actual look of the file?

if you want to keep the formatting you will need to use ole probably.
it wont actually put the document in the page though, it would be a sort of iframe.

can you tell me more about OLE. any good help sites?

i couldnt find any specific examples on getting word documents into the page, but it is done using the object tag. its much like embed's that you see where people play midi files and you can see the slider with the play pause buttons on it.
in order to do this of course, the person must have word installed on their computer and be using ie for it to really show up properly.
