php session problem

hi there......

i have been trying to pass averiable to another php page but it didnt work.............the seccion id is getting changed, so i lose the value of my first session.......iam trying to pass the veriable of the user to the next page so he can see hi user name wellcomed.......its working and passing from the first page to the second, but then, the value of the session gets changed......
any help...????????

it helps when you post the session code you are using that doesn't work.

a couple things when using sessions:

1. you always need session_start(); at the top of pages you are using sessions on.

2. below is the way to save a variable to a session:

   session_start();
   $username = "joe";
   session_register("username");
   
   echo $_SESSION['username'];
