DNS Problems

Wondering if anyone can help me out?

I have a new domain name and I want it to point to a folder on my server. I've tried to use both web forwarding and frames but neither of them work the way I need them to.

I want the name to point to the folder and act as though that is the root of my server folders.

For example:

http://www.mypage.com

should point to http://www.mypage2.com/folder

so when I go to http://www.mypage.com/page.htm

I should see http://www.mypage.com/page.htm in the address bar.

I hope I have explained that well enough!

This doesn't appear to be a DNS question. It's more of a web server question. Which server are you using? Apache or IIS, probably.

If it's apache, then you just do a:

DocumentRoot /path/to/your/www/dir

Most likely that will be in a VirtualHost directive.

If it's IIS, then you should switch to apache.... 😃 j/k. If it's IIS, I can't help. Sorry.

I am using Apache, yes.

I have a website at the root of the server, will this redirect that as well?

Is there anything I can do with the .htaccess?

Maybe I'm missing something. First, do you have access to the httpd.conf file?

If you do, what your asking to do doesn't require any tricks. It's just a straight forward config.

No sorry I don't have access to that file. Would I need to contact my host to do this?

PS At least I don't think I do! Where would I find it if I did?

Your host should be able to take care of it. Chances are though, that they will probably just tell you to move everything up one directory.

Thanks for the help guys. I contacted my host and they apparantly do this as part of the service!

Should have though about that first really!
