I have read through the previous thread that has possible book suggestions.

I am not a complete beginner. I can pickup languages pretty quick. I picked up COBOL in a week.

I have heard really great things about the O'Reilly books.

I made a list of possible books. I am interested in hearing comments. I noticed there isn't a sticky for this topic.

"PHP and MySQL Web Development, Second Edition" SAMS
"Programming PHP" O'Reilly
"Web Database Applications with PHP & MySQL" O'Reilly
"PHP Cookbook" O'Reilly
"MySQL, Second Edition" SAMS
"mySQL Cookbook" O'Reilly

I have no problem buying 5 or 6 books.

I would rather buy the best books now.

Thanks.

This was a very well written book for someone who has some programming under their belt.

I personally own the first one you eldue to:
"PHP and MySQL Web Development, Second Edition" and although I don't refer to it as much (mainly because I have built up my snippet library), I still open it up when I get stuck on something.

I also have used "Professional PHP4 Programming", but I checked it out at the library, and since then, the library doesn't have it any more, and I can't find it in my local book store. I imagine if I ever wanted to order a book online, this would be one I would purchase, because I know it's available.

I am waiting for PHP5 to go into production release, and I will be looking into a book for that, so until then, I don't think I will be buying any other books.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

Out of the the two lists below how would you order them:

        PHP:
"PHP and MySQL Web Development, Second Edition" SAMS
        "Programming PHP" O'Reilly
"Web Database Applications with PHP & MySQL" O'Reilly
        "PHP Cookbook" O'Reilly
        Professional PHP4 Programming (WROX)

        mySQL
        "MySQL, Second Edition" SAMS
        "mySQL Cookbook" O'Reilly

If you have any additions please add them.

        Thanks.
