Registration / login / new users

Hi,

I am very new to php and mysql and dont really have a clue about where to start in terms of what i want to do.

I want to create part of my site so users have to register their email address and in the process get a password and username to login to access the rest of the site.

how can i achieve this?

Unless you are actually wanting to learn programming, you should download a CMS like PostNUKE. It is a ready made solution that does not require programming knowledge.

thomasdawborn, I recommend reading some introductory PHP tutorials to get the hang of it (might start with the PHP manual over at PHP.net), then move on to some authentication-specific tutorials (there's a whole section for them at The PHP Resource Index).

PostNUKE is a content management system (or CMS). It allows you to create content and leverage programming for non-programmers. Google around for it. The price is free.

Mordecai may not think highly of it, but it is a good solution for people who don't want to learn programming, but want the benefits of it. If you do decide to use it, make sure you are anal about downloading and installing security patches, or you'll get hacked.

You could also take the time to use Google to research it yourself... you'll get more that way.
