Handy service. I'd change 3 things though:

Ditch "pic.php" and do everything though the index.php page. That way you can link images using http://free-image-hosting.org/?123456
Record a crc32 or md5 checksum of the image, and only save it if its a new pic, otherwise give the user the existing image id.
Use an alphanumeric id rather than a simple numeric one. That way you could get down to 6 characters .. much shorter URLs.

very good ideas! thank you so much. Im not sure about how well I could do #1. or if I want to, as having the pic.php makes it easy to put other info up when the pic displays.

#2, im not too sure how that would work.. but it sounds like an amazing idea and im going to figure that out! major space saver, as quite often there are 4 or 5 versions of each pic on the server.

#3 good idea also, going to check it out.
