$HTTP_REFERER won't display

I am trying to use $HTTP_REFERER to determine which page a user has come from.

On a certain webserver, I can't get access to that variable,..is there a straightforward workaround or do i have to get the Sys Admin to change something in the php.ini file?

if register_globals is off on that server, you may need to use $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'] instead.

in fact, since php defaults to register_globals off, you should get in the practice of using the predefined superglobal arrays, $SERVER, $POST, $_GET....

$HTTP_REFERER doesn't alawys work with different browsers.
