Retrieving Selected List Box Values by Method other than $_POST[submit]

hello everybody,

we are a group of people doing project using php and mysql.

we have two listboxes whose selected values need to be entered into the where clause of a mysql select query, the result of which needs to be entered into a text box.

all this needs to be done before pressing the submit button. since we do not want to use $_POST['submit'], what is the other way out to do the above.

we would be grateful if somebody would help us with a reply as soon as possible.

javascript.
php is server side so it is only active while the script is being parsed on the server. javascript runs client side so when they click listboxes you can have it add things to a textbox.
